Though the last movie in the Madagascar franchise was released four years back, the third instalment, Madagascar 3 Europe’s Most Wanted still has managed to recreate the magic, which often gets lost in sequels. This one seems to be the best of the series in terms of action and adventure. Credits to Dreamworks Animation, who have moved one step further in Animation Industry, by setting a new standard. This movie is filled with spectacular 3D enhanced visuals, which turns out to be an 85-minute-long non-stop roller-coaster ride. However, Madagascar 3 is not the same as any classic animation film we have seen till date, yet the films in the Madagascar franchise are made for sheer fun, and it has lived up to that billing till now.
This movie also features the same old group of characters from the previous editions. The gang tries to get back to New York, and along the way, they get to meet new friends. The new characters are also as likable as the existing ones. There are plenty of sequences that are just meant for the 3D experience. Some scenes make you feel ridiculous and some are very rich and colourful. Yet it does not move on to the level of being an all time classic. The film is filled with fun, and nothing else. And this is not the movie for people who expect something more than mind-blowing visuals and adventure. The jokes and the dialogues are still pretty hilarious.
The ultimate surprise is the depth of the narration here, as the screenplay from Eric Damell and Noah Baumbach, has managed to squeeze in a lot, in just a matter of 85 minutes. The major new entries to this instalment have also become crowd favourites, such as the girly cheetah Gia, the Russian tiger Vitaly, and Stefano the sea lion, who tries his very best to hold the entire troop together.
The verdict: Madagascar 3 Europe’s Most Wanted certainly is the most colourful and gorgeous part of the series, but not quite the best. A movie for all generations to enjoy.
